The Food We Eat Is Killing Us | The Proof Podcast

About the Episode

The Proof sat down with former president of the American College of Cardiology, Dr Kim Williams, to discuss the role that our diet plays in preventing, suspending, and reversing cardiovascular disease. You can listen to the podcast at The Proof episode #90.

Dr. Kim Williams is a renowned figure in cardiology, serving as the Head of Cardiology at Rush in Chicago. As a former president of the ACA and a member of the Association of Black Cardiologists, Dr. Williams is dedicated to advancing cardiovascular health and advocating for equitable healthcare access. His leadership and expertise are instrumental in driving progress and promoting health equity in the field of cardiology. He is knowledgeable about nutrition research and adept at incorporating it into his personal diet, teaching, and patient care within the Rush cardiology department. A noteworthy insight from this interview is that individuals who consume meat often refuse to acknowledge the benefits of a plant-based diet. Conversely, practitioners of whole food, plant-based (WFPB) diets sometimes experience heart attacks due to their refusal to take statins, which can be short-sighted. The latest guidelines from the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the American Heart Association (AHA) now recommend statin use for individuals with at least a 7.5% risk of a heart attack within 10 years, as determined by the ASCVD score. Previously, a 10-year risk was not indicative of statin use.
